Please share a memory of Lillie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lillie Fair Elliott passed on to join her husband, Phynes on August 7, 2009 at the age of 69, at her home in Kiefer in the company of her children and loved ones. Lillie was the ninth out of ten children born to Maxfield Lock and Clara Nickell Lock in Citra, Oklahoma on December 29, 1939. She married Phynes Ray Elliott on September 11, 1953. Lillie was preceded in death by her husband Phynes, Son Gary, brothers John Nickell, Bill and Lance Locke, sisters, Audrey Shaffer and Sally Wilson. She is survived by her children, William Elliott and wife Gwen, David Elliott and wife Dian, Janet Pierce, Joy Lawson and husband Mike, Carla Elliott and husband Ray, her brothers, Morris Lock, Donald Lock and wife Ann, her sisters, Elzada McCathern and husband Jerry, Judy Todd and husband John. Lillie was blessed with thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She will be missed by one and all. It is hard to know where to start to tell a story about Lillie Fair Elliott. She was a remarkable woman who epitomizes the image of a true pioneer from a large, close knit family struggling for survival in her early years in very humble surroundings. Lillie nevertheless lived what she said was a satisfying life. She remembered her earliest hardships as a young girl, blistering summer heat, bitterly cold winters, scrapes and bruises, laughing and crying over things large and small. The stuff good stories are made of. She wrote a lot of recollections down in various journals, which today have become a family treasure. Lillie married Phynes Ray Elliott on September 11, 1953 and wrote that it was the best decision she had made in her entire life. Over the past few months, she commented now and then that she was ready to join her husband, who predeceased her on June 11, 2002. Perhaps on this day, our day of sadness and loss might also be seen as a goal achieved by Lillie, like a logical and necessary end game; the end of a chapter and a new beginning for her as well as for us. Others who have passed before include; son, Gary Dale Elliott, brothers, John Nickell, Bill and Lance Lock, and sisters, Audrey Shaffer and Sally Wilson. May they all now be together again, perhaps sitting together, sharing memories and feelings, the circle completed, for them at least. Lillie Elliott leaves behind her brothers, Dan Lock and Morris Locke, sisters, Elzada McCathern and Judy Todd and her children, Bill, David, Janet, Joy and Carla, thirteen grandchildren, and an incredible thirteen great grandchildren. There are as well numerous nieces and nephews and of course a host of friends too many to name. Someone pointed out recently that Lillie felt that eulogies are better short and sweet, rather than longwinded. Although it would be easy to tell a longish story about her life and times, maybe she would not have wanted everyone to make a fuss over her. Apparently she was ready to go. She was a practical woman and wise in some ways common with people who have seen a lot and endured much. She was opinionated and had a joke or two ready to tell, she liked to quilt and yes she liked a day at the casino once in a while too. We the living will surely miss her now that she is gone from our lives, but it is also true that she is reunited with people whom she has herself long missed. There can be comfort for those who cared for her even though sadness and loss are unavoidable, right now. There is a special kind of balance in these things if we look close enough. Visitation: 9am - 9pm Monday and Tuesday Service: 11:30 am Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Green Hill Funeral Home Chapel Cemetery: Lenna Oklahoma
