Obituary of John Patrick Reichmuth

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John Patrick Reichmuth (“Pat”) passed away peacefully on March 31, 2020 at St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa, OK with his wife, Kathleen, at his side. He succumbed to the blood cancer he had been battling for the last year and a half. Pat was born on September 6, 1951 in Graceville, Minnesota, the son of Edna Layman and Jack Reichmuth. He grew up in Chokio, MN with his parents, three sisters, Nancy, Katie, and Carol and one brother Donnie. He loved growing up in rural Minnesota. His fondest memories were of the family mink farm and working/farming with Ordell and Carol Ritter in Chokio. He learned to drive trucks and tractors at an early age, served mass at St. Mary’s, and enjoyed hunting, ice skating and playing hockey. Pat graduated from Chokio-Alberta High School in 1969, then enlisted in the US Navy. He worked in Patrol Squadron VP 45 as an anti-submarine warfare technician. His service took him to Iceland, the Azores (in the Mid-Atlantic), Rota, Spain and Sigonella, Italy. His home station was in Jacksonville, Florida, where he met and married his wife, Kathleen Wicker. Pat was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1974. After his time in the Navy, Pat and Kathleen moved to Kansas City, Missouri where he attended Maple Woods Community College earning his Associates Degree in electronics. He was hired by Amoco Pipeline and moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa. His 32-year career in the oil and gas industry took him and his family from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Sugar Creek, Missouri; Manhattan, Illinois; and Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a Control Center Pipeline Supervisor for BP/Amoco when he retired in March 2009. In retirement Pat loved spending his time outdoors with friends and family, especially the fishing trips to Ottertail Lake, MN; Skiatook Lake, OK; Grand Lake, OK; and Lake Texoma on the Oklahoma/Texas border. Pat was a generous host on his boat and a ruthless pilot for the young people he pulled behind the boat on the tube. He so enjoyed pitching them into the lake with a sharp turn after they asked Mr. Pat to go faster. He looked forward to the fall deer camp hunting trips with his son-in-laws, and grandsons. He was especially proud this year of two of his grandsons, Tucker and Lucas, when each boy harvested their first deer on his farm. He loved his yearly garden, feeding the birds and cursing the squirrels. He became the garlic growing expert and shared his bounty with everyone. Pat loved annual vacations to Minnesota and Colorado. He enjoyed camping in his fifth-wheel with friends and family. When Kathleen retired from public education, she and Pat celebrated with a trip to Alaska with good friends, Kim and Gary. It was a trip of a lifetime. Pat is preceded in death by his grandparents Edna and Albert Reichmuth of Chokio, and Della and Earl Layman; his parents, Edna Mae and Jack Reichmuth; his second beloved adopted mother, Carol Ritter; and brother Donald William Reichmuth. His wonderful life will forever be cherished by his wife Kathleen of 46 years, and his three devoted daughters and their families: Amy Reichmuth (Tulsa, OK), Amanda and JoeBill Rehder (Skiatook, OK) and grandsons, Hunter and Tucker, and Sarah and Scott Nangle (Joplin, MO) and grandson, Lucas. He will be missed by his three sisters: Nancy Reichmuth Dussl, Katie Reichmuth Kurth, and Carol Reichmuth Coleman. He was loved and will be fondly remembered by nieces and nephews and even great nieces and nephews as “Uncle Pac”. During his time on Earth, he touched many lives and will be remembered with love by co-workers, many friends, and extended family. We owe our deepest gratitude to his special caregivers over the past year, Oklahoma Bone Marrow Team, Stephenson Cancer Center in OKC, and the OK Cancer Specialist and Research Institute in Tulsa. Our memories of Pat bring us great joy. To honor Pat and the inspiration he was to all of us, we ask in lieu of flowers, please leave a story, memory, or make a donation to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation (ODWC), P.O. Box 53465, Oklahoma City, OK, 73152 in his honor. To know that his family and friends were supporting the conservation of his beloved outdoors would bring a smile to Pat’s face.
