Obituary of Carolyn Sue Wentzel

Please share a memory of Carolyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carolyn Sue (Housley) Wentzel was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on June 13, 1950 to Chester C. Housley, Sr and Lavine (Botts) Housley. She left this earth on June 7, 2020. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Chester Housley Jr, Donald Housley, Doyle Housley and Dale Housley and sister Carla Bilyeu. She is survived by her son Daniel Wentzel and wife Rebecca, and granddaughters Ruby, Vivien, and Isabelle, former husband John Wentzel, sister Anita Carrell, brother Clinton Housley, sisters-in-law Louetta Housley, Sandra Housley, Nancy Bennett, Judy Kail, Brenda White and loving nephew Joshua Love. She will be missed by all who knew her including many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. As a teenager Carolyn gave her life to Christ while listening to a radio broadcast by her lifelong friend Lonna Barr’s father, Brother Rubert Furr. She attended Sapulpa schools where she made numerous lifelong friends including Judy (Lee) Freeman. After graduating from Sapulpa High School in 1968, she attended beauty school, then worked as a stylist at Margaret’s Beauty Shop in Sapulpa where she perfected the “curl and rat” that was her favored hair style. Shortly after, she met John Wentzel at West Tulsa United Methodist Church. John played the piano and Carolyn sang. They then began their ministry together on the same radio show she listened to as a teenager. They married in 1972, and hoped to start a family. After mentoring children, their dreams were realized when they adopted their only son Daniel. A couple of years later, they took a job in Indiana where they lived for 10 years before moving back to Oklahoma to be closer to family and friends. They continued their ministry with brother Pastor Dale Housley while making numerous friends. Carolyn still entertained family and friends singing at get-togethers while accompanied by John on the piano every chance they had. Carolyn loved singing, spending time with her family and spreading her love for God and for others around her. She was an avid basketball fan and loved watching the NBA on TV. She loved spending time with her granddaughters who added endless joy to her life. She would brag on “my girls” to anyone she met. Later in her life she found a passion in teaching children in Sunday school at Christchurch in Tulsa, OK. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. Funeral Services are scheduled at 2 pm on Friday, June 12, 2020 at Green Hill Funeral Home. Final Resting place is in South Heights Cemetery. www.greenhillok.com
