Obituary of Lynell Lockridge
Please share a memory of Lynell to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marilyn Lynell Lockridge of Owasso finished her race on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at the age of 75. She died peacefully at home surrounded by people she loved after a short battle with cancer.
Lynell was born in Owasso, OK on February 4, 1945 to Jack and Hazel Logsdon. She had one brother, Frank and sister-in-law, Johnnie Ruth. Lynell attended Owasso Public School and the First Assembly of God church where she made life-long friends. She attended NEO in Miami, OK where she was, no doubt, the life of the party.
Lynell married Harold Lockridge on July 22, 1967 in Owasso, OK, where they made their home. Lynell worked for Dr. Evans in Owasso and then spent most of her professional life working as a payroll and benefits administrator for Continental Industries in Tulsa. After retiring from that career, she worked at Countryside Flowers and most recently at Green Hill Funeral Home, both in Owasso.
Lynell enjoyed cooking, shopping (especially on QVC and HSN) reading western romance novels, visiting the casino, and listening to Southern Gospel music. She and Harold were members of Central Baptist Church, where through the years Lynell taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was an active member of the JOY Sunday school class. Lynell delighted in giving to others. She had a wonderful sense of humor, told the best stories, had an infectious smile and the best laugh in the world. Most importantly Lynell, known by so many as Mimi, loved spending time with friends and family, especially her god-granddaughters, Addison, and Zoey.
Lynell is survived by her goddaughter, Stacey Gaines-Avery, and husband Jason of Owasso. God-granddaughters, Addison, and Zoey Avery of Owasso. Life-long friends, Linda Popejoy and husband Bill of Owasso and Maureen Gaines of Owasso. Lynell is also survived by her boys – Jeff Barentine and Youssef Mhemedi of Tulsa, Steve Baggett and Howard Wyble of Tulsa, Michael Sheldon and Greg Sergeant of Owasso, and Jerrod and Nicole Barentine of Owasso. The list of neighbors, church members, co-workers, and clients that Lynell considered family are too numerous to mention. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her parents and her brother and sister- in-law.
There will be a private graveside service followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29 at Green Hill Funeral Home in Owasso. Everyone is asked to wear bright colors in honor of Lynell`s larger-than-life personality. Her chosen family will also greet friends at Green Hill from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28.
Much gratitude to all her caregivers these past few months including Kathleen, Cat, Alyssa and Paige, the entire staff at Rivercross Hospice and to Tom Dugan and staff at Green Hill Funeral Home in Owasso.
There may be tears down here but there is laughter in Heaven!
