Obituary of Gerald Skaggs

Please share a memory of Gerald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gerald "Dean" Skaggs was born to Edgar and Anna Skaggs on July 21, 1928 in Delaware County, Oklahoma.  Dean was a graduate from Westville High School.  Thru his younger and adolescent years he was always helping his family with their farm. His first job was at Cantrell's Feed Store and then he went to work at Sun Oil on March 14, 1953 where he gave them 31 years of service.   Dean married Verda Mary Moore on May 20, 1955 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.  The couple lived in Berryhill and was blessed with two sons, Rick D. Skaggs and Terry A. Skaggs.  Around 1975 Dean moved his family to the acreage and home he built.  It took Dean seven years of hauling rock and making a road to this new homestead.  Dean has always been a hard worker with dedication to his family.  He demonstrated a strong will to live and how we should get the most out of every day we are given.  Dean was the meaning of the word "MAN" as God intended it: Honesty, Sincerity, Hard Work, Dedication, Loyalty, Loving, Providing and Forgiving.  He loved his family and his grandchildren could always make him smile.  He enjoyed his cattle, horses, martins and the catfish he stocked in the pond so the grandkids could always fish.   Dean is preceded in death by his sister, Nina Skaggs-1923, mother, Anna Skaggs-1986, father, Edgar Skaggs-1987, brother, Charles Skaggs-1990 and brother, Dennis Skaggs-2000.   Dean is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Verda Skaggs of the home, son, Rick Skaggs, son Terry Skaggs, although not of biological decent, daughter, Tammy Skaggs all of Sapulpa, sister, Wanda Hamby of Tulsa, grandchildren, Bowie Skaggs, Timber Skaggs, Cody Skaggs, Tairryn Skaggs all of Sapulpa and great grandchildren, Hunter Skaggs and Allison Skaggs also of Sapulpa.   Although Dean's later years were confined because of immobility, he never quit or complained.  His face would light up when company came by for a visit using his one good hand to give you a wave and squeeze.  He truly has been an inspiration and has left his footprints in all that have met him and for that he will be remembered until we all meet again.  Our love goes with you and yours remains with us. Visitation: 1:00PM - 9:00 PM Saturdayand Sunday September 5&6, 2009, and 9AM - 9PM Monday September 7, 2009 Service: 2:00 PM Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at Green Hill Funeral Home Chapel Cemetery: South Hieghts Cemetery, Sapulpa Ok
