Obituary of Daniel David Johnson

Daniel Johnson, 82, of Talala passed away in his home Friday, September 25, 2020. He was born on April 17, 1938 in Eureka, Calif. to Fred and Goldie Johnson. He was the oldest of four children. After completing high school, he joined the Navy where he served from 1955 to 1959 stationed in Hawaii. He married Verna Mae Patton on May 10, 1957 in Waikiki Baptist Church in Hawaii. After his service in the Navy the couple moved to northern California to be near family and raise four sons. Dan worked as an operations manager for several companies including Ecodine, Latoka, and Gastech. At one point in his career he was managing several operations all over the country including California, Chicago, Atlanta, and Tulsa. He cofounded Tulpro, Inc., an oil and natural gas processing equipment fabrication company. In 1974 his employer transferred him to Tulsa and they chose to make Oologah their home. Side by side the couple started Seldom Rest Ranch, raising cattle. All four of their sons graduated from Oologah High School where Dan served on the School board from 1975 to 1983. During his time on the school board, he was instrumental in the planning and development of the auditorium and pool. Dan enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren participate in sports. You could catch Dan under the Friday night lights on the fifty-yard line, thirteenth row for many years watching the Oologah Mustangs. He is survived by: sons Rocky and wife, Johanna of Talala, Brody and wife, Robin of Collinsville, Marty and wife, Diana of Nowata, Jody and wife, Trudi of Talala; twelve grandchildren Jörn, Jön, Whitney, Corey, Kisa, Hope, Nataley, Cody, Lindsay, Thorin, Tanner, Karyssa; eighteen great-grandchildren; siblings Viola Minton of Redwood Valley, Calif. and Lori Oakley of Chelsea, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Goldie McClendon-Johnson, sister Susan Murray and wife, Verna Mae Johnson. A celebration of life will be held outdoors on the Seldom Rest Ranch on Friday October 2, 11 am. Please enter at 3244 E. 360 Rd. Talala, OK 74080.
