Obituary of Darlene Marcell Porter
Please share a memory of Darlene to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Darlene Marcell Porter, 71, co-owner of Porter Construction Co., passed away in her home on the morning of November 3, 2020. She was born on February 15, 1949 in Abilene, Texas to Matthew & Christine Marcell (Yost) Davis. She was the youngest of three siblings (Charles Davis and Doyle Davis). She graduated Abilene High School in 1967. Her parents and brothers preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband Steve Porter and sons Reed and Robert Buettner. Her oldest of three sons, John Buettner, predeceased her in 1997.
Darlene was known for her wit, decorum, and compassion. She was assertive when such rare occasions required, but always considerate in any situation. Her kindness and thoughtfulness were noteworthy among neighbors, family, and friends; she'd always go the extra mile to brighten someone's day.... baking cakes or pies, or crafting personalized gifts (with the same meticulous effort that she demonstrated with any/every other task), or just initiating uplifting discussion to improve the mood. Without realizing it, she was the light in whichever room/venue she was in.
She accomplished an impressive amount in her life. While patiently and lovingly raising three boys, she held various jobs over her years....including managing an ice cream parlor, being a substitute teacher, being a top salesperson for a jeweler, running gift shops (all in the 80s while living in Burkburnett, Texas), and then moving to the Tulsa area in the 90s and becoming a successful real estate broker....while helping run a construction company with her husband. And all along the way at every stage of her life, with her positive traits, she easily developed rapport with basically anyone present.
After a courageous battle against neuroendocrine cancer, she went to be with the Lord on the morning of November 3, 2020.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, anyone wishing to send condolences can instead donate to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas, Texas. With the passing of this wonderful lady, many more people are mourning besides just the immediate family. Therefore, bestowing gifts upon everyone affected is cost-prohibitive. It was a blessing to know her, and the kept memories are a blessing.
