Obituary of Edward Lewis Higgins

Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
At the age of 91, Edward Lewis Higgins arrived in Glorious Heaven on November 27, 2020. Ed was born on July 14, 1929, in Webb City, Arkansas, to his parents, Oscar and Mollie Higgins. Ed grew up in Ft. Smith, Arkansas, and after his High School graduation, he quickly decided to join the United States Marine Corp at the young age of 18. Ed served four years with the Marine Corp. In 1950, Ed was one of few survivors of the horrific “Battle of the Chosin Reservoir”, during the Korean War. Ed was also proud of his time served (after Korean War) with the Marine Corp, while he was based in Washington, DC, as a Bugle Player and Member of the Marine Corp Band. Ed was proud playing “taps” in the very, very, early morning hours for his Marine Corp Brothers. Ed also performed with the Marine Corp Band as a Drummer for the (then) President of the United States. After serving in the Marines, Ed worked at his Father’s lumber yard located in Turley, OK. It was then, that Ed met his wife of 66 years, Patricia Higgins. Ed was only 24 and Patricia 18. Edward is survived by his wife, Patricia and their two daughters: DeAnn Milligan and husband, Mike; Pamela Higgins and husband, Rick McGinnis; and three grandchildren: Damon Hayes-Milligan, husband Brad; Sean Milligan, wife, Rachel; Kelley Milligan; and five precious, great, grandchildren: AJ, Eric, Josephine, Brody, and Mia. Ed’s career, as a Wholesale Milk Driver, was good means for his family for many years. However, Ed was most proud of his job (after retirement) as a Ketchum, Oklahoma School Bus Driver. Ed was extremely fond of the young children that he truly helped in many ways during that time. Ed learned to play golf in his 70’s and enjoyed playing a round of golf with his best friends: Jay and Ray. He also looked forward to his weekly Coney with his dear friend, Don Brinkley … who was one of many that greeted Ed when he arrived in Glorious Heaven. Many of you know that Ed was fond of “homemade, vanilla ice-cream” …. Always said … “plain … no toppings please”. Ed left a legacy of integrity, kindness like no other, and was the epitome of compassion and empathy for others. Edward always believed in the golden rule: “Do unto others as you would do unto yourself”. Edward will be deeply missed by many and never forgotten. May Edward rest in peace and enjoy his pain free life ….. in Glorious Heaven.
