Obituary of Larry Ray Johnson

Larry Ray Johnson was born March 28, 1946 in Vancouver, Washington. He was the oldest child of the late Johnnie Johnson and Alesie Powdrill. He went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at St. John Medical Center, Tulsa. Larry was a life-long resident of Sapulpa, OK. He received his education at Booker T Washington School and Sapulpa High School. Throughout his youth Larry was an athlete playing football during his high school career. Larry earned the nickname “Bo” as he was bow-legged and walked with a swagger. Larry was a fan of sports such as football, softball and auto racing. He passed his love of sports along to all of his children. Larry spent many years on the side lines as a coach to various softball squads and little league football teams. He reveled in coaching and teaching the mechanics of the game. He still maintained those relationships with “his kids” he coached until his passing. In 1964 Larry married Arvella Hayes. They remained wed until Arvella’s passing in 1995. They were parents to five children: Kimberly, Larry “Ray”, Johnnie, Kevin and Natalie “Nikki”. Larry has an older son Norris. Larry later remarried Sharon Smiles in 1997. Larry was a truck driver by trade and retired from Waste Management after 30 years of service. In his spare time he enjoyed cheering on the Chieftains and Sooners and he enjoyed blues music, collecting model cars and watching westerns. Larry is proceeded in death by his parents Johnnie & Alesie Johnson, sisters Linda Davis & Sharon Logan, first wife Arvella Johnson and youngest son Kevin Johnson. He is survived by his wife Sharon Johnson, brother Richard Johnson, children Norris Johnson, Larry Johnson, Kimberly Johnson, Johnnie Johnson & Natalie Bell –step children Gary Lee Smiles, Tanisha Patterson & Shaquita Nelson in addition to 10 grandchildren and a multitude of extended family, friends and Snowball, his faithful companion. Services are scheduled at 11 am on Friday, May 9, 2021 at Calvary Baptist Church with interment in Green Hill Memorial Gardens. The family requests cards be sent to Sharon Johnson (2222 S. Main Sapulpa, OK 74066) and flowers delivered to Green Hill Funeral Home.
