Obituary of Kathryn Lucille Cole

Kathryn Lucille Bryant Cole was born at home near Locust Grove Oklahoma on April 9, 1928 to Della Hester Huls Bryant and Thomas Preston Bryant, right before the beginning of the Dust Bowl and Great Depression. Katy was the youngest of four children, two brothers, Emery Gordon Bryant, and Elmer “Jake” William Bryant, and one sister, Opal Charlotte Bryant McLain. Life was hard during the time she was growing up, but her fondest memory was of playing kick the can even if it did cause her front tooth to get knocked out. Like many Oklahomans during those years the family moved to California but returned to Oklahoma minus her oldest brother, Emery, who chose to stay. One of the things that Katy never gave up loving from those Depression years was brown beans, fried potatoes, and cornbread in milk. Katy started working at the National Bank of Tulsa while still living at home. After a time, she and some friends got an apartment together and this was the first time she had not lived with her family, but they were only a phone call away. Katy met Joseph “Glenn” Cole and they married on August 20, 1956 and her life changed. Her new husband was a geologist, and they moved a lot. After their daughter, Jerre, was born they moved to Grand Junction, Colorado, then Caspar, Wyoming, and, then Aurora, Colorado. When Jerre was 4 they moved to Norman and Glenn went back to school and Katy took a job at the First National Bank and helped to support their family while he got his master’s and PHD. At the end of their time in Norman, their son, Reese was born, and then it was off to Hurst, Texas. There were more moves after that, back to Tulsa, then to Littleton, Colorado and then finally to Sapulpa, their last move together. They became members of the Sapulpa First United Methodist Church and were very involved in helping man luncheons, funeral dinners, and the annual Fish Fry, Rummage Sale and Pumpkin Patch. Katy was asked to become a member of the local PEO Chapter G and she was very proud of this. She and Glenn were also members of the Sapulpa Historical Society and helped with numerous fund raisers. Katy moved to Stillwater after the passing of her beloved Glenn in 2008. Kathryn Lucille Bryant Cole, 93, passed away May 12th, 2021 at Brookdale Senior Living in Stillwater among friends and family. Katy is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, a nephew, Bruce Floyd McLain, and a great-niece, Melissa McLain Potts. She is survived by her daughter, Jerre Taylor, and her husband, Rocky Taylor, her son, Reese Cole, and grandchildren Amanda and Cole Taylor and Jessica and River Cole. As well as her niece Judy McDaniel and great nephews Brian McDaniel and Darren McLain.
