Obituary of Maureen Nadine Gaines
Please share a memory of Maureen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Maureen Nadine (Fry) Gaines passed peacefully at home on Friday, May 28,2021 at the age of 76. In the months & days before her passing, she was surrounded by her family. Her family was the most important thing in life to Maureen. Especially her granddaughters Addison, Zoey & Autumn.
She was born on November 22, 1944 in California the oldest of six children, to Maurice & Nadine Fry. Growing up in a military family she moved around as a small child until finding her true home in Owasso at the age of 16. Graduating from Owasso High School & starting her career as a hairdresser. One of her gifts was bringing joy & beauty into people’s lives, and she built a life long career until she retired in 2001.
Another true gift of Maureen’s was cooking & baking. She was an amazing cook. Over the years, she compiled an enviable library of cookbooks & handwritten recipes. When she wanted to share her love, you would find her in the kitchen whipping up the most delicious cookies, homemade cheesecake, egg salad or biscotti. No matter what she made, it looked better than the pages she had carefully marked in her treasured books. Maureen cooked for everyone: Family, neighbors, church, the kids at Falls Creek & always willing to cook something up when Stacey had friends over growing up. She blessed us with her cooking and her secret ingredient was love.
Maureen was an amazing mom, and she made it look effortless. It wasn’t easy being a single mother, but you would have never known it. Without complaint, Maureen poured herself into being the best mother, always having dinner on the table, a spotless house, the laundry done, and while attending her daughters every class field trip, school activity & sporting event. She was happily devoted to her daughter, Stacey who is still in awe of all the things her mother accomplished.
But never was Maureen so happy as when she was given grandchildren. She was thrilled to spoil Addison, Zoey & Autumn every chance she got. Whether pretending to have their own cooking show in her kitchen while she dressed them up in aprons with their names on them, as she spoke clearly into the camera and they laughed. From buying prom dresses for Addison, show sheep for Zoey, whatever they needed they could always call Nana. Nana cherished being a mom & a nana.
Maureen is survived by her daughter Stacey Gaines-Avery & husband Jason. Granddaughters Addison, Zoey & Autumn Avery. Sister Suzanne O’Roark & husband Michael. Brothers Gene Fry & Stephen Fry. And many beloved nieces, nephews & cousins.
Maureen was preceded in death by her parents Maurice & Nadine Fry and brothers Kris Fry & Danny Fry. Best friend & honorary sister Lynell Lockridge.
