Obituary of Florence Kay Welker
Please share a memory of Florence to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Florence Kay (Gregory) Welker took her first steps in her new Heavenly Home to be with the Lord and reunite with her loving husband on Sunday, June 6, 2021. She was born November 22, 1941, in Beggs, Oklahoma to John Emery Gregory and Vera May (Dawson) Gregory.
Florence moved to Arizona with her family in 1949. She attended school in Pima, Arizona. Her family returned to Oklahoma in 1956, finishing school in Sapulpa, class of 1959. After Edsel Welker returned home from the U.S. Marine Corps, the couple married on April 7, 1961. Sapulpa is where they settled and started their family, blessed with 2 children. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage. She worked for Telex for more than 10 years before beginning her career as a cafeteria manager for the Sapulpa and Jenk’s Public School Districts. She retired from there after more than 30 years!
Florence enjoyed being involved in her kids’ activities. She was a troop leader for Blue Birds and Campfire. She kept the scorebook for many baseball games. She and Edsel traveled for years in bowling leagues. She also enjoyed relaxing at the lake with family and friends. As her family grew, Florence continued to follow her grandkids to softball, soccer, dance, and car racing, along with attending school programs. She loved spending time with her family in whatever activities they had going on. She loved and cared for all of them equally.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents John and Vera Gregory, her husband Edsel Raymond Welker, sister Helen Vickers and brother Vernon Gregory. Florence is survived by siblings; sister Betty Slaton, brother Lawrence Gregory and sister Patricia Herd; by her children; daughter Kim Miller and husband Chip; son Steve Welker and wife Kelly; her grandchildren Amanda Turnham-Miller, Holley Kimbel and husband Steven, Todd Miller, Braden Welker, Cody Stuart, Caitlyn Stuart and Aubrey Welker; great-grandchildren Briley Turnham, Daniel Turnham, Grace Kimbel, Isaac Kimbel and Emelia Welker; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Florence’s family have many wonderful memories of time spent together. Those memories have become treasures. She will be deeply missed.
