Obituary of Albert Dauane Raby, Sr.

Please share a memory of Albert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Albert “Dauane” Raby, Sr. was born September 30, 1939, just south of Liberty Mounds. He was the first child born to Jack & Faye Raby. He was “king of the hill” for six years, but things changed when his twin sisters were born, and he was not a happy camper. He wanted a brother, not a sister (especially two sisters). He went to school that morning and told his friends that he had twin sisters born and when the school bus brought him home, the bus unloaded, and everyone came to see the twins. That night, he pushed his bed as far as he could in the corner. His life changed that day. Dauane attended Liberty Mounds elementary first through third grade and the remaining years he attended Mounds Schools where he graduated in 1957. As a little boy, when Dauane walked anywhere, he tried to step in all the water puddles he could just to see the splash. He loved sports and played basketball and track and loved watching baseball, basketball, and football in his later years. His favorite hobby was boating, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed the time spent with his boys on these outings. In 1970, he married Janice Johnston and they were happily married for 51 years. They shared the love of fishing and camping. A family trip to Lake Tenkiller in the late 60’s was a memorable trip. He and his boys and entire family camped out. His parents had a bumper crop of tomatoes that summer that summer and about midnight the tomatoes started flying. Everyone seemed to be involved and the tent that Dauane and the boys were in was the target. Randy, who was about six, said “Dad, what is that, hitting our tent?”. They soon knew and the fight was on. Dauane was a transport driver for Meadow Gold for 20 years and he also remodeled homes in the Sapulpa area. Dauane was preceded in death by his parents Jack & Faye Raby, his sister Jane Klein, and his daughter Tammy Raby. He is survived by his wife Janice Johnston Raby, his two sons Dauane Raby, Jr. (Amanda) and Randy Raby (Teresa), his sister Judy Zumalt, nine grandchildren; Matt, Jason, Tammy, Justin, Kayla, Randall Jack, Jackson, Jennifer, and Kenny, his nieces Kim Klein Meadows (Paul) and Dayna Zumalt Morton (Randy), his great niece Allie Morton as well as numerous great grandchildren.
