Mary Jean (Cheyne) Murrell was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on August 2, 1955 to William and Imagene Cheyne. Mary entered the gates of Heaven on Monday October 4, 2021. Mary grew up in Tulsa and married her childhood sweetheart Harold ‘Wayne’ Murrell on March 3, 1973. They moved to Kiefer in 1978, where they raised their family. She began working at Kiefer Public Schools in 1983 where she performed many different duties for 38 years. Mary became Superintendent of Kiefer Public Schools in 2003 and held that position for 18 years until her retirement in August 2021. Mary was a hard worker, she spent countless hours working on grants and bond issues to improve the facilities at Kiefer Public Schools. Her favorite part of working at the school was being able to interact with the students and she took great pride in improving their education. Mary had the kindest, gentlest heart, she always put others before herself. She enjoyed reading any book she could get her hands on, loved to have flowers all around her and was happy just sitting with her beloved dog Lola in her lap. Mary adored her family and grandchildren immensely. If you ever met Mary, she would make sure to tell you all about the wonderful things her grandchildren were doing. Mary is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Donny and Stacey Murrell, her son Jeremy Murrell, grandchildren Slade and Macaulay Murrell, Chandler Murrell and Tanner Jezik, Dylan Murrell, Hannah Murrell, Sheriff Murrell, Hollie Murrell and Sheridyn Murrell, sister and brother-in-law Cheri and Dave Sayles of Henderson, Nevada, sister and brother-in-law Sally and Ken Goodnight of Tulsa, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Murrell, her parents William and Imagene Cheyne, and her brother Billy Cheyne. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 am on October 9, 2021 at Kiefer Event Center. She will be laid to rest in South Heights Cemetery alongside her husband. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, you may send donations to Kiefer Public School Foundation PO Box 645 Kiefer, OK 74041.
