Obituary of William Thomas Smith

William Thomas Smith, better known as W. T. “Dub” Smith, was born at home June 14, 1925, in Sallisaw, Oklahoma the second child of William Thomas and Ada Smith. Dub went to be with the Lord in heaven on December 28, 2021, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma at age 96. Dub is survived by his wife Janeth Smith of Sapulpa, sister Willa Mae Hoover, son Wiley Smith and wife Beverly of Sapulpa, Tamah Bowling and husband Frost of Kiefer, Tim Alsup and wife Sheri of Sapulpa. Grandchildren Justin Smith and wife Amy of Sapulpa, Adam Smith and wife Patricia of Bixby, Sara Hammond, and husband Rayce of Sapulpa, Mallary Goforth and husband Andrew of Sapulpa, Nathan League and wife Anne of Sapulpa, Joshua League and wife Farrah of Sapulpa, and Philip League of Sapulpa. His is survived by 19 great-grandchildren. Dub was preceded in death by his father William Smith, mother Ada Ray, stepfather Bob Ray, brothers and sisters, several bother and sisters including Alice Stockard, granddaughter Amanda Alsup, and great-grandson Auston Smith and many nieces and nephews. Dub’s father passed away when he was two months old. His mother married Bob Ray and merged the two families consisting of seven children. At age four Dub’s family moved to Sapulpa, then to Pickett Prairie where his stepfather was a farmer and where Dub had various chores including picking cotton. He attended Woodlawn Elementary for the first grade then attended Pickett Prairie through the eighth grade then on to Mounds to complete his education. Dub and Jan met when she was working at the Sapulpa Schools administration building. Senator John Young brought Dub through her office one day and introduced her to Commissioner Smith. They learned that they were both interested in God’s “Precious Book”. Both having had Godly parents and grew up as a child “in the way he should go.” They enjoyed God’s Word together all their married life. Dub and Jan traveled extensively including two trips to the Holy Lands and to Greece, Italy, France, Belgium, and Switzerland. Dub was Creek County District One Commissioner from 1965 to 1980 and again in 1986 to 1990. In addition to his service in county government he was a farmer, land and real estate developer, and oil and gas operator. Dub took courses in business, agriculture, and public speaking. Dub served as board member of the Lone Star School and Director of Central Oklahoma Economic Development District. He was involved in Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce and Rotary. Dub helped to create the Creek County Industrial Authority which created jobs and millions in industrial development for the county. He was also instrumental in building of the Creek County Fair Grounds. Dub was a very active member of Faith Baptist Church and served in various leadership positions over the years. Most importantly to Dub was his relationship to the Lord Jesus Christ. It was important to him that all his family come to place their faith in the Lord. He loved to share the Gospel and studying God’s Word. All friends and family are invited to lunch at 12:00 before the service at Faith Baptist Church.
