Please share a memory of Joe to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joe Edward Woodberry was born on March 16, 1938, to Claudius Woodberry Sr., and Pauline Ruff Woodberry in Slick, Oklahoma. He attended school in Kellyville, Oklahoma before moving to Sapulpa, Oklahoma. In 1958, he graduated from Booker T. Washington School in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. After graduation, Joe joined the Army National Guard. Later, he met Viola Marie Barnes Thomas, and together they had three children. In 1990, Joe returned from Hissom Memorial Hospital, where he served twenty-five years. Many years later, after the death of his wife, Joe moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where he served as a pastor. He then moved back to Sapulpa, Oklahoma, where he served as an associate pastor at St. John’s Baptist Church, until his health started to fail him. Joe enjoyed traveling and watching old westerns very much. Joe is preceded in death by his wife Viola, his parents Claudius Sr. and Pauline Woodberry, a son Gary Thomas, a daughter Wanda Marshall, and sister Wilma Woodberry. He is survived by his sons Jesse Thomas III, Donald (Beth) Thomas, Floyd (Susan) Woodberry Thomas, Jerome Woodberry, a daughter Tina Woodberry, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to share a very special thanks to the Pastor, the family and friends of St. John’s Baptist Church- you are awesome.
