Obituary of Mildred Viola Flanagan

Mildred Viola “Vi” Keester Flanagan was born on April 8, 1941, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Theodoor and Mildred Keester. She had four brothers, Robert, William, Pearson, and T.C. Mildred also had one sister, Theola.

Vi’s mother introduced her to the fine arts at a very young age. When Vi got older, she expanded her talents into music, drama, and art at her beloved high school, “Classen.” She toured with her school choir, performed in plays, all while increasing her skills in drawing and painting. She continued her art interest at Oklahoma City University.

Vi met the love of her life, Kenneth Flanagan, when she was just a junior in high school. They dated for four years before they finally got married on July 30, 1961.

She worked as a dental and physicians assistant to fund her husband’s undergraduate degree in Oklahoma, as well as his graduate degree in Tennessee.

The couple started their family when they adopted their children, Shawn, and Shannon Flanagan, as infants.

Vi loved being a mother and practicing her faith at the Episcopal Church. She also enjoyed gardening, and any living creature. Vi’s favorite place was her cabin in Red River, New Mexico.

Vi and Ken lived in Tennessee for 55 years before moving back to Oklahoma in 2020. In all those years, they never failed to visit their families in Oklahoma and New Mexico whenever possible. Traveling overseas was a shared joy for the couple.

Vi will be dearly missed by those who loved her.
