Obituary of Shirley Jean Bennett

Shirley Jean Bennett, age 77, of Mannford, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord Sunday, January 15, 2023, in Mannford, Oklahoma. Shirley was born January 7, 1946, in Mercedes, Hidalgo County, Texas, to Odell and Jewell (Radican) Pitts. On February 5, 1966, Shirley married the love of her life, Joe Michele Bennett. They had two children she loved very much, David Dewayne and Sheila Michele.

 

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bennett, sisters, Betty Bushong and Barbara Pitts, bothers Donnie Pitts, Jerry Pitts, William Keith “Billy” Pitts, brother-in-law Tommy Bushong, sister-in-law Vivian Pitts, Carol Pitts, niece Paula Bushong, and parents.  She is survived by her children David Bennett and Sheila Lawson, brother Clyde Pitts, sister Patricia “Patsy” Holden, brother-in-law Joe Holden, 10 adoring grandchildren, and 12 adoring great-grandchildren.

 

Shirley was a woman of faith and LOVED all her family.  To be close and support her children, she volunteered as a substitute teacher, homeroom mom, band parent, and took the lead in many other groups.  Given the opportunity, she also took this role to support her grandchildren.

 

She loved to sew and crochet.  She spent many hours sewing dance costumes for both children.  She was known to wake them through the middle of the night for fittings and the "occasional" stick of the sewing needle.  She had a passion to collect dolls which she enjoyed doing with her sister Trish.

 

In your hands, O Lord, we humbly entrust our loved one, Shirley Bennett; In this life you embraced her with your tender love; deliver her now from every evil and bid her eternal rest. The old order has passed away: welcome her into paradise, where there will be no sorrow, no weeping or pain, but the fullness of peace and joy with your Son and the Holy Spirit forever and ever. Amen.

 

She will be laid to rest with her Husband of 50 years at the feet of Jesus in Green Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery.  Per her wishes, a funeral service will not be held.  A family Celebration of Life service will be held at 2pm, Saturday, January 28 at Shirley’s home in Mannford.
