Obituary of Grace Joan Shepard
On April 9, 2023, we lost a most beautiful woman, who for years has been the center point of our family.
Jody to most, Mom to some, and Mimi Jo to grandchildren and great grandchildren; was born August 20,
1935 in Huron, South Dakota to Paul K. and Ouida G. (O’Mara) Myers.
Jody lived in several towns growing up as her father was a director of chambers of commerce
throughout the midwest. She enjoyed winter sports with her father and keeping house with her
mother. Jody attended Iowa State University where she studied home economics and after college
became a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines.
On June 14, 1957, Jody married Charles A. Brown with whom she shared three daughters. As Charlie’s
business in lumber sales took him to different cities, likewise, she worked as a secretary in a variety of
settings. Although they divorced, Jody and Charlie remained close friends until his passing in 2004.
Jody married Lon Dorman and William Shepard, who both preceded her in death.
Besides homemaking, Jody loved animals, volunteering, and working with the elderly. While in her 60s,
Jody got an Associate Degree and worked as a substance abuse counselor, which she enjoyed very
much. She also championed many causes and was successful in influencing positive changes in the
communities where she lived.
Until 2021, Jody lived in Gladstone, Missouri before moving to Owasso, Oklahoma, where she passed
peacefully. Besides her parents, Jody was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas M. Myers.
The family Jody leaves behind and who loved her so much are her three daughters – Lynn Wollard
(Steve), Cathy Roesle (Dan), and Kari Shriner (Kent). Jody will be missed greatly by her nine
grandchildren – Laura Leeper (Jamie), Joey Wollard (Cassidy), Kevin Wollard, Clay Roesle, Nick Roesle,
Dane Roesle, Maddi Bertsch (Jon), Nick Shriner (Brianna), and Corbin Shriner (Tatum).
Jody was so very proud of and loved her ten great grandchildren.
A memorial service for Jody will be held on a future date. Contributions in her name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and to the Oxford Glen Memory Care at Owasso – 11113 103rd Street N, Owasso, Oklahoma 74055.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Oxford Glen for their care and loving support of Jody for the past two years.
