Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Daniel Francis Perry Drake known affectionately as “Ducky” passed away peacefully on June 10, 2023, at the age of 63, leaving behind many unforgettable memories.

Born on May 11, 1960 in Oxnard,California to devoted parents, Norris and Joyce Drake,  Dan grew up in east Ventura.

He attended and  graduated from Buena high school and while there, his vibrant spirit permeated through his involvement in the drama department, orchestra, and as the manager of the varsity basketball team. Whether on stage performing alongside his peers or supporting his basketball team, it was evident he took joy in every role he had.

Driven by his deep faith and desire to lead others to Christ, Daniel pursued a path of ministry. He graduated from Bethany Bible College and for several years, served in various churches including First Assembly of God in Ventura, California.

He then went on to work in partnership with his dad to form The Flue Doctor Chimney Sweep that served Ventura County for 30 years.

As a chimney sweep and inspector, Dan fiercely climbed rooftops removing soot and grime to bring warmth and comfort to countless homes. He proudly accepted the moniker of “Fiddler on the Roof” as Dan’s musical talent shown brightly through his skillful mastery of the violin, sharing his melodious tunes and infusing joy into other's hearts.

Dan had been introduced to Rotary while in college. So, it was no surprise that he became one of the youngest members and founders of the Ventura Rotary Club South, where he served many years in various roles, including president and other offices exemplifying Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self”.

In 1992, Dan was reacquainted with Pam George and was married in a double wedding ceremony with Pam’s sister, Becky  and his close friend Terry Olson in May of 1993. He then began attending Ventura Missionary Church and began playing in the church orchestra and, for several years, was a part of the Sunday morning worship team, as well as, a group fondly called “The Friday Morning Boys” who led worship for one of VMC men’s small groups.

In early 2020, Dan had several health issues that eventually led to his retirement from chimney sweeping. Although leading a quieter life, he continued to bring enjoyment to many with his violin turned fiddle playing until he suddenly went to be with our Lord on June 10, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his mother Mary Joy (Joyce) Drake. He is survived by Pam and his children, Sophia and John (Rob), his father, Norris Drake, his sisters and brothers in law: Donna and Crockett Stearns, Rebekkah and Reverend Bob Warman, Jr., brother in law Stephen George, brother in law and sister in law Terry and Becky Olson, his Aunt Margaret (Margie) Downs, his nieces and nephews: Mahana Blind, Maria Rylee, Anna Stearns, Adam Stearns, Emily Premo, and Evan George, and great nephew Bretton Blind, along with many other family members.

A memorial will be held at 10am on July 11th at Clearview Church in Claremore, Oklahoma. In August, his ashes will be scattered over the Pacific Ocean. Donations in his honor may be made to ClearView Church, PO Box 415, Claremore, Oklahoma, 74018 and Ventura-South Rotary, Foundation Inc., PO Box 6383, Ventura, California, 93006.
