John was born on August 13, 1980, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. John grew up in the Tulsa Metro and moved to Corpus Christi in 1991. He moved back to his beloved home in Tulsa in 1998, before graduating from Thomas Edison High School in 1999. He was loved by many as a son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend.

John was the son of John Westen Norman, and Wendalyn Jo Norman, and was the youngest of 3 siblings, Ivy Nicole Hopwood, Jacqueline Leigh McCarty, and himself. John was preceded in death by his sister, Jacqueline McCarty on February 25, 2004, and by his father John W. Norman on April 29, 2006.
