Obituary of William Robert Burrus
William Robert (Bob) Burrus passed from this life in Sapulpa OK on December 5th, 2023. Bob was the fifth of six children born to TC and Mae (Wren) Burrus on November 18, 1932. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, two sons Rickey L James and Anthony Robert Burrus, and his siblings Carl Burrus, Eileen (Burrus) Crowley, Doug Burrus and Lorene (Burrus) Burnett. He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 69 years Virginia (Crawford) Burrus, son William Clint Burrus (wife Maria), granddaughters Julia (Burrus) Talley, Jennifer (Burrus) Wadkins (husband Wes) and Sophia Meneely. He is also survived by Great Grandchildren Morgan Talley, Carson Talley, Jackson Wadkins, Thomas Wadkins and Vivienne Wadkins. He is also survived by his brother Floyd Burrus (wife Francis). He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and their families. We especially want to thank and acknowledge Earline (niece) and Jackson Lierly, Carl Burrus (nephew), Demi (niece) and Dale Walts and Randy (nephew) and Vickie Crawford for their valuable support and care for Bob and Virginia over the last several years.
Bob served in the US Army after being activated from the Oklahoma National Guard (Thunderbirds) in the summer of 1950. He was a Korean combat veteran and was honorably discharged June 13, 1952.
Bob spent most of his career working for JCPenney managing the furniture distribution facilities in Oklahoma City, Kansas City and Arlington TX. After his long career with JCP, Bob found retirement boring so he went back to work for another 10 years with Cardinal Health.
Bob was a Christian and baptized in November 1954. Later he served as an Elder at the SW Church of Christ (Oklahoma City) and then at the Glenpool Church of Christ.
He was also involved in numerous civic organizations. He twice served as President of the Sapulpa branch of the OK Kids Baseball league. He was President of the Sapulpa Chieftain Booster Club (1975-76) while serving in this capacity Bob was instrumental in the fund raising to build the George F. Collins Stadium. He is a former member of the Lions Club. Bob coached his sons and other young men on numerous sports teams.
His family would like to acknowledge the wonderful care he received from Leslie Walker MD, Wayne Leimbach MD, Starla Allen DO and each of their staff members. Also we wish to acknowledge the support and care from Traditions Hospice especially Beverly, Bruce and Britney.
A celebration of life will be held at the Glenpool Church of Christ (Glenpool Oklahoma) on December 8, 2023 at 11:00 AM followed by a graveside veterans service at the Green Hill Cemetery (Sapulpa Oklahoma).
