Dewey Allen Montgomery, Jr., aged 74, passed away on February 1, 2024. He was a beloved
father, husband, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Dewey was born on July 6, 1949, in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Spring Branch High
school in 1967. In 1971 he earned his bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin University with
a double major in history and political science. He worked in route sales for bakeries and snack
food distributors until his retirement in 2014.

In his free time, Dewey enjoyed watching the Houston Astros. He loved fishing and camping,
and with his wife hiked many miles of trails in the Texas Hill country. He was a skilled
marksman, and as a member of the Wild Bunch won many skeet shooting contests.
Dewey’s warm smile and gentle temperament put people at ease. When he wasn’t going off
about bonehead plays and coaching during Astros games, he was a joy to be around.
Dewey is survived by his loving wife, Sandy Renner Montgomery, his children, Renee Robinson
(Lonnie) and Elisa Pittman (Clint), and his grandchildren, Brittany Dean (Shawna), Skyler
Sandlin, Cade Pittman (Lauren), Grant Pittman and Garryn Pittman, and great-grandson
Camden Pittman. He is also survived by his stepson Paul Carter (Destiny) and grandsons Paul
Ethan Carter (Jade), John Carter and Elijah Carter. Sisters Debby Simpson (Leonard) and
Melody Anders (Robert). His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Thelma Grace and Gene Welch.
