Verda Mary (Moore) Skaggs

November 06,1936 – January 30,2024

Verda was born In Peggs, Ok on Nov 6,1936 to Zed and Essie Moore. She grew up in the Locust Grove area with eight siblings. As a young girl Verda always displayed musical talents that continued to blossom into adult hood. She was gifted with her ability to play guitar, song write, and her vocals were pure country. From a sweet yodel to a tender Patsy Cline cover, she blessed your ears and touched your heart with her vocal sound.

Touching the heart of Dean (Gerald) Skaggs they married May 20,1955. They lived in Berryhill where they had two sons: Ricky D. and Terry A.

Around 1975 they moved to a home they all had a part in building from the ground up. With plenty of acreage Verda managed gardening, canning, yard work and old fashion home cooking. With motherhood came sewing, cheerleading for all sports, photography and embroidery for tea towels or quilts that she would make for family.

Grandkids came along and she was very instrumental in being a part in each of their lives! Playing in the creeks, mud pies, dress up and forts, attending sporting events, crafts and silly gifts that she would make. Always, filling their belly with something good. A smile on their face and a forever footprint in their hearts.    

Verda battled with many medical conditions that ultimately led her to Waynoka, OK where she lived out her days under the care of her granddaughter Tairryn.

Verda was with family when she received her call home Tues Jan 30,2024. She is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years; Dean Skaggs, Son - Ricky Skaggs, Son - Terry Skaggs, Mother - Essie Moore, Father – Zed Moore, sisters - Iva Sharp, Delpha Skaggs, Gladis Hoffman, Madge Silkey. Brothers -  Richard Moore, Glen Moore, (Sonny) Zed Moore

Verda is survived by Grandchildren – Bowie Skaggs of Sapulpa, OK – Timber Skaggs of Sapulpa, OK - Cody Skaggs of Alva, OK – Tairryn Bowers of Waynoka, Ok                 Great grandchildren: Hunter Skaggs, Allyson Habekott, Stetson Bowers, Aspen Skaggs and Riverly Bowers -  Great Great granddaughter: Sutton Skaggs, Brother – Coy Moore, Daughter: Tammy Skaggs-Jones
