Terry was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on September 1, 1951.  He was the second of three sons of Charles and Lavern Vanderpool (nėe Lavern Faddis)

After graduating Tulsa Will Rogers High School in 1969, he joined the U.S. Army where he served honorably in duty stations at El Paso, Texas and Bavaria, West Germany.  He went on to graduate from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1982 with a degree in Metallurgical Engineering and Temple University in Philadelphia in 2000 with a Law Degree.  A proud native tribal member of the Cherokee Nation, Terry was well-traveled and spoke three languages. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed family, working with his clients, eating his mother Lavern's brown beans and cornbread, and playing baseball, golf, ping pong, and chess.

Terry died on July 15, 2024, in Houston, Texas at 72 years.  He is survived by one son, Casey Vanderpool, two daughters, Cynthia Vanderpool Garcia and Priscilla Weikel, both brothers, Michael and David Vanderpool and lots of extended family members all of whom he loved very much.

Terry will be buried at White Oak Cemetery in Cherokee County, Oklahoma.
