Judy and I were cousins in the best sense of the word. When I didn't get the usual e-mail back after sending our Christmas letter last holiday season, I began to worry that something was not right. I thought maybe I should Google her, which I did yesterday. My fears were confirmed. We'd lost touch except for an occasional e-mail but I knew roughly the track of her life the past 10 years or so.
Saturday afternoons were our movie time--one of our moms would drop us off at the theater and pick us up afterward. There were always serials leaving us in suspense until the next Saturday. We spent time at each others' homes and sometimes at Grandma and Grandaddy Butler's house with Auntie Marie. She called Grandma "Big Aunty". When I heard from her in the past decade it was good for us both--confiding and remembering the good times, the laughs and our hopes and dreams.
Judy was always proud of all her children. I remember when Michael was born--I was in college in Boulder and she told me "you don't know what love is until you have a baby." As our family grew, and Stan and I had four children and now 8 grandchildren and 3 greats, I shared that with her via Christmas letters and photos.
I know in my heart she is in a peaceful and safe place, but am sad to think of not hearing from her again. Please know our condolences are with her family. I know she will be greatly missed. May God bless all of you.
