I only have childhood memories of Aunt Goldie since we didn't see much of each other in our later years, but they were fond memories. Aunt Goldie was always so good to me, and I looked forward to seeing her and my three cousins, her beautiful daughters Sonia, Dea, and Mary, whenever they would come to visit my Grandmother Morton and me in Prattville. I'll never forget that summer day in 1970 in Aunt Goldie's backyard in Okmulgee, when Sonia, Dea, and I were about 9 years old. We were playing in a little plastic swimming pool, and when I got out of the pool, I stepped on a huge nail that went all the way through the top of my foot. Aunt Goldie lovingly comforted me and calmed me down as she carefully pulled that nail out of my foot, then she rushed me to the emergency room to make sure I had a tetanus shot. I don't know how she managed to pull that nail out without it hurting, but I remember the instant relief of pain after she did. Then there was the time that Aunt Goldie and Uncle Ray took Sonia, Dea and I to ride one of their horses. I'd never been on a horse before, and I was terrified. Sonia and Dea were already old pros on a horse, so when the horse started bucking with all 3 of us sitting on him, I became instantly hysterical! My dad and Uncle Ray were standing there with beers in their hands, laughing at us, but Aunt Goldie didn't think it was funny. I remember her scolding them both, demanding that Uncle Ray take us off that crazy horse, which he finally did. That was the second time Aunt Goldie saved me from certain doom, and she was definitely my hero! Aunt Goldie was such a sweet lady, and I will always have nothing but fond memories of her. My heart goes out to your family today as you say your farewells and honor Aunt Goldie's life and memory. May God's peace and comfort sustain each one of you during this very sad and difficult time. Sending much love and prayer for all of you.

+ 1
Me’ma was the most loving of her grandchildren. She sacrificed often to provide to those in her care. She was so proud of everyone’s accomplishments.
She also would sometimes mistake wasabi for pistachio pudding, and you would know of the mistake immediately.
She was also a master of egg noodles, if you missed out—I’m sorry.
She never fancied herself much of a cook, but somehow, she could dress a baked potato in a way that had me asking for another each time.
Please check out the photo of her sitting in her snow bench. To her right (out of frame) is a snow princess she sculpted—we had so much fun that day. And yes—those are Walmart bags keeping her gloves dry.
