Obituary of CHESTER POTTS
Please share a memory of CHESTER to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Chester Potts was born on June 26, 1923 in Cheyenne, Wyoming to Anna and Chester Potts. He spent most of his childhood in Brighton, Colorado. Dad married Donna Ames on June 14, 1947 whom he met at Open Bible Institute in Des Moines, Iowa. He did not have a chance once Mom decided this was the "man for her".
He was a Radioman Third Class in the United States Navy from September 11, 1942 to January 3, 1946. Dad served as pastor in fourteen churches over the span of 40 years. His Navy experience provided much material for his sermons. He was a man of faith and prayer and a beloved father and husband. He loved sports, especially basketball and fly fishing. Colorado was by far and above his favorite place on earth. Sweets were and earthly source of joy for him; raisin pie, cherry pie, cinnamon rolls, doughnuts, chocolate bars, ice cream and Colorado peaches.
Most of all, Dad's life was about pleasing God and fulfilling God's plan for his life. His desire was for all his children to be "sold out for God" and be dedicated to God's plan and will. He tirelessly helped others so he could be a blessing to them. Persevereance and never giving up were his aim. God was his best friend.
These are his words of wisdom; Obedience is better than sacrifice; don't get caught up in this world; Life in this world is short and eternity is forever; the important issue is what God thinks of me.
He is now in heaven where he longed to go. We have been blessed by Dad and thank God for him and his example of God's love and faith to all of us.
Dad is survived by his wife Donna of 63 years and all his children including; David, Marilyn and children; Les, Sharon and children; Ron, Roberta and children; Linda, and Don, Corey and children; along with two sisters; Diane and Bernice.
