Obituary of MIRRELL WILLIAMS
Mirrell Isiah Williams went to be with the Lord, April 7, 2011 at the age of 91. He was born March 9, 1920 in Kellyville, Oklahoma on Spruce Street to Moses Isiah and Flara Oldham Williams. Flara passed away when Mirrell was very young; his dad remarried later, Ophelia Hansford of Kellyville. She was the only mother he knew and he loved her tremendously. On May 12, 1942 he married Josie Mae Pennington, of Sapulpa. They were married for 65 years until her death on March 31, 2007. Their devotion to each other was strong throughout their lives.
Dad joined the army in 1939 and served his country through WWII. His unit was the Second Field Artillery Observation Battalion, activated at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. June 1, 1940. They departed from New York, August 1943, landing in Oran, Algeria. The Central European Theater was to be their area; Naples-Foggia, Anzio, Ardennes-Alsace, Rome-Arno, Southern France D+7, Rhineland, Africa, and Central Europe. He received 7 campaign medals, Silver service star, Bronze Service Stars, Bronze Arrowhead, 5 other medals and was awarded Bronze Star, and he was honorably discharged at the rank of Master Sergeant, July 1945.
Mirrell then went to work for Century Geophysical located in Tulsa. This career took Mirrell and Josie all over the United States. The last four years of his employment he worked for Globe Universal Sciences located in Houston and they were stationed in Algeria, Africa. They returned to the states in 1973, Mirrell retired and they made their home in Sapulpa, Ok.
At the age of 12 Mirrell was baptized at Kellyville in Pole Cat Creek. Four years ago, he rededicated his life to his Saviour and was baptized in the New First Baptist Church of Kellyville where he was a member. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, at one time or another he held all of the positions in the Kellyville, Kiefer, and Sapulpa Lodges. He was most proud of his position of Chaplin the last few years of his life.
Mirrell was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Josie, 2 sons; Billie Frank and Larry Joe, brother, Moses Jr. and 2 sisters; Thelma Berryhill and Dorthea McElravy.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Gary Ray of Sapulpa; Granddaughter Crista of Tulsa; brother and sister-in-law Frank and Ellie Williams of Woodland, Washington; Sisters, Lavaughn Galbraith of Woodland, Washington, Fay Pringle of Port Angles, Washington, and Phyllis Joel of Puyallup, Washington, along with numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends.
