Obituary of BARBARA NEWBERRY

Barbara Ann Newberry, 66 of Mounds went to meet her Lord, May 1, 2011 after a long courageous battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. She was born to the late Glenn and Elsie Green, March 2, 1945 in Ajo, Arizona. Barbara graduated from Mounds High School in 1963. She married Jim Newberry in 1964 and lived in the Mounds area all of her life. Barbara spent the majority of her life in service to others. Her three sons and family were always the primary focus of her loving efforts. That service and unconditional love naturally expanded through marriage to her extended family, grandchildren, and anyone who needed help. Barbara was an active member of the Mounds First Baptist Church. She also served on the board of the Mounds Cemetery Association, and was the longest tenured employee of the Creek County Election Board with over forty years of service. Barbara was preceded in death by her sister, Jeanice Gilbert as well as a brother who died in infancy. She is survived by her husband: James L. (Jim) Newberry of the home; sons: Jimmy and Deanna Newberry of Mounds, Steven and Terry Newberry of Mounds and Richard and Laura Newberry of Shawnee; grandchildren: Rob Gray, Lacey Newberry, Audrea Newberry, Lindsay Newberry, Sydney Newberry, Nathan Newberry, Natalie Newberry, Olivia Gray and Wyatt Gray; brothers: Jack and Florita Green, Ronnie and Susan Green and Eddie and Debbie Green; brother-in-law: Tom Gilbert and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends. Services for Barbara will be 2:00PM Thursday, May 5, 2011 at The First Baptist Church of Mounds with interment to follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mounds. Casket bearers will include Jay Sturman, Alvin Richardson, Nick Harris, Robert Gray, Steven Lawson, and Robert Foresman. Honorary bearers will be Al Peacock, Bill Johnson, Mike Jenkins, Al Keizor, Jerry Baird and Gary O'Neal. If you wish, in lieu of flowers you may make donations to the Mounds Cemetery Association. The family has chosen to entrust the care of the service to the directors at Green Hill Funeral Home in Sapulpa. 9182242312 greenhillok.com
