I was so sadden to find this site. Mary was one of my best friends in high school. We shared most of our class, especially Latin which we both loved. In April 1970 we went on a trip with our Latin Club to Italy and had a wonderful time walking where Ceasar walked. This is a picture of Mary in our hotel room in Rome, entertaining us with her harmonica playing.

after hearing the news of mary's passing i went down to lake huron and watched the end of a thunder storm pass over the lake. there in the grey, white and blue of the sky was a double rainbow and i gave it to mary. i knew mary along time ago when we were just starting out in life in albany new york. she was a fun loving person with a big smile and laugh and i'll always remember the good times we had together. i love you mary, my friend.

Peonies by Mary Oliver -
This morning the green fists of the peonies are getting ready
to break my heart
as the sun rises,
as the sun strokes them with his old, buttery fingers
and they open--
pools of lace,
white and pink--
and all day the black ants climb over them,
boring their deep and mysterious holes
into the curls,
craving the sweet sap,
taking it away
to their dark, underground cities--
and all day
under the shifty wind,
as in a dance to the great wedding,
the flowers bend their bright bodies,
and tip their fragrance to the air,
and rise,
their red stems holding
all that dampness and recklessness
gladly and lightly,
and there it is again--
beauty the brave, the exemplary,
blazing open.
Do you love this world?
Do you cherish your humble and silky life?
Do you adore the green grass, with its terror beneath?
Do you also hurry, half-dressed and barefoot, into the garden,
and softly,
and exclaiming of their dearness,
fill your arms with the white and pink flowers,
with their honeyed heaviness, their lush trembling,
their eagerness
to be wild and perfect for a moment, before they are
nothing, forever?

Jesse, Chanda and Joan, I know how much of a shock this has been for all of you and my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of grief. Jesse, I to am an former USAF Pararescueman having served in a combat zone. No one ever expects things to happen back home such as the death of a parent while you yourself are put in harms way every day. Your mother was taken prematurely, but I pray that you find strength and assurance from the one true God that holds our lives in his very hands. I pray blessings on you and your loved ones and thank you for serving our mighty country. I know your mom was very proud. God Bless, Dan Manion
