Obituary of Emma Lee Oakley

Emma Lee Oakley was born in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma on December 11, 1937 to Walter and Lola McCombs. At the age of 77, Emma went to be with Jesus on September 15, 2015. Emma was the oldest of 12 kids growing up in Wagoner County before moving to West Tulsa and attending Webster High School. She married Clarence ‘Sonny’ Oakley on June 20, 1954 in Tulsa, Ok. Together they raised 5 children and enjoyed many years of sporting events, gardening and family get-togethers. They loved traveling and went to many different places across North America as Gate House Attendants for the Army Corps of Engineers. Emma attended church at Fellowship Freewill Baptist in Sapulpa for many years with her family. Setting an example for God to each of her children and grandchildren. She was the President and Leader of many groups throughout her life including Avant PTA, Den Mother and volunteered for numerous other groups. Her hobbies included gardening and taking part of her Master Gardeners group, bowling, painting, Red Hat, care group and cooking. She held the award for Best Coconut Crème Pie in the World (that’s right, the world). Emma is preceded in death by her parents Walter & Lola McCombs, her husband Clarence Oakley (Sonny), 6 sisters Lee, Mildred, Janet, Lana, Susie and Maxine and 1 brother Tony. She is survived by her brothers Jessie, Cleon, Larry and sister Marlene. Her children Cherry and husband Billy Tuttle, Ronald Oakley, Kenneth Oakley, Jeanette and husband Tommy Gowdy and Gary Oakley all of Sapulpa. Her grandchildren Brandy and husband Shawn, Lacy, Lola, Jenny, Amy and husband Tommy, Jeremiah, Erica, Tina, Johna, Shawna, Shannon, Mindy and husband Mike, Josh and wife Beth and Michelle. 23 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and hundreds more family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church. Visitation is 2-8 pm at Green Hill Funeral Home.
