Obituary of Melvin Leroy Ranney
Melvin L. Ranney was born August 26, 1936 in Kiefer, OK to Jay and Edith Ranney. Melvin attended Kiefer Schools then joined the U.S. Marines in 1956 with a tour in Japan. After his Marine Corp enlistment ended he joined the Army and went to Korea. Later he answered his nation’s call and volunteered for service in Vietnam. He served 2 tours, 1966-1968 and 1970-1971. Melvin served as a Crew Chief on helicopters. After the war years he was stationed in Ft. Huachuca, AZ on Libby Air Field. Melvin left the army in 1975 and came back to Sapulpa where he worked as a floor hand on a pulling unit out of Kiefer doing oil well service until he was hired at Sun Oil Refinery. Melvin was a Boilermaker and on the First Response Team or Swat Team for emergency repair and was on the Fire Brigade at Sun Oil Refinery. Not finished with his military career he joined the Army National Guard Reserve and served with the 179th out of Sapulpa until 1994. Melvin Served with honor for over 30 years before retiring.
Melvin loved to hunt and fish so much that he had a lifetime hunting & fishing license. Especially fond of fishing, he fished all over the U.S., Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf of Mexico. He also taught his sons how to noodle for Big Catfish. Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Wilma Ranney, son Warren Ranney, son Allen and wife Karen Ranney, son Eric and wife Audrey and their children Lauren and Matthew Ranney, brother Robert Ranney, sister Vivian Ranney, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Melvin was a faithful Christian Man and attended Faith In Grace Church in Sapulpa for the last years of his life. Melvin went to be with the Lord October 31, 2015.
