Obituary of J. Goodman
Please share a memory of J. to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
J.D. Goodman went to be with his Lord and Savior September 17, 2013 from his home in Kellyville, Oklahoma at the age of 87. J.D. was the third son born to Joshua and Susie Brannon Goodman on March 4, 1926 at Kellyville. He attended Kellyville Public Schools where he graduated in 1947. On September 1, 1947 he married Wanda Wilson. At that time, he began his career as a dairyman continuing operations in the Creek County area for 20 years. While growing their dairy, they also began growing their family that would come to include five children. In 1955 he and Wanda were named Oklahoma Farm Family of the year. In 1964 he was hired to operate the Creek County Rural Water District #1 where he worked until his retirement in 1991. Following his retirement from CCRWD#1 he continued ranching on the family farm. J.D. loved the promise of new life as experienced through sowing a seed and watching it mature into a full harvest, planting a tree and nurturing it until it bore fruit, admiring a new foal or calf frolicking in the pasture, or watching grandchildren play. He believed if you couldn't say something good about someone you simply shouldn't say anything at all. He was a lifelong resident of the Kellyville area and served his community as a school board member, Lions Club member, and in countless other ways. He was a member of the Kellyville United Methodist Church where he was always ready to encourage and serve. Following his retirement, he and Wanda loved to travel and enjoyed many trips for both leisure and missions, often traveling with their cousins Lewis and Vivian Cooper.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda, of 66 years. Also surviving are children and spouses, David and Kathy Goodman, Susan and Frank Holley, Glen Goodman, Sarah and David Keiffer, and Mary and Bill Littrell. Surviving grandchildren and spouses are Isaac, Amber, Joseph, Tiffany, Amy, Ken, Alex, Andrew, Katie, Katy, Audrey, and Natalie and two great granddaughters, Isabella and Zoey. He also leaves behind numerous family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one grandson.
The family extends a very sincere thank you to Carolan Yoachum, Chestena Crall, Becky Nightingale, Marty Peterson, and Tranquility Hospice for their loving and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tranquility Hospice, 1815 East 15th Street, Tulsa, OK 74104.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 22, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Kellyville High School located at 14959 Maple Drive, Kellyville, Oklahoma.
