Dad, I still can't believe you're gone. I want to pick up the phone and call you all the time. I'll miss dropping in at your house and just talking for hours. I know you're in a better place, pain free and completely healed. I know with time it will get easier, but I'm thinking it will take a long time! I'll miss you always and love you forever! Love, Sissy

My brother, Shawn and I were only three years apart so we were very close growing up. One of my (not so funny!) memories with him was when we thought we had pulled a fast one on our parents one Saturday night. I think we told them we were going to the movies or something but instead went to 20th Century Electric Company because it was THE cool place to go in Tulsa back in the 70's. We stayed a couple of hours and were just about ready to leave when this really drunk guy kept pestering me to dance. I told him "No" several times. Shawn had just come back from the restroom and saw this guy still bothering me. He tapped him on the shoulder and said, "Hey, my sister said she doesn't want to dance so leave her alone." He wasn't aggressive about it, just protecting his big sis. We left shortly after that and when we got to the parking lot, "bam"!!! These two guys blindsided Shawn and proceeded to kick him when he fell. A security guard saw it and ran the guys off but Shawn was clearly hurt. We got home and sneaked in the back door so as not to wake Mom and Dad. I stayed awake to take care of Shawn as his jaws were really swollen. Omgosh!! We actually thought we could hide his swollen face from Mom and Dad! He had to have his jaws wired shut and eat through a straw for at least a month. I felt so bad because he was only defending me and got hurt because of it.
I have so many good memories but this was one we laughed about (much later!) because we actually thought we were pulling a fast one on Mom and Dad!
R.I.P. my dear Shawn. You're with the Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa and Duke now. Not to mention friends who went to be with Jesus before you. I love you and will miss you terribly especially your quick wit and sense of humor. You always made us laugh!! You were an awesome son, brother, Dad, grandpa and uncle. You will be missed by all.
