Obituary of Evet Rose Cross
Evet Rose Nam Cross was born in Watt Town, St.Ann ,Jamaica on April 8th 1930 to Emily Hylton and William Nam. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday July 27th 2022 in Owasso, Oklahoma, she was 92 years old
She did all her schooling in St.Ann and Kingston.
My mother started her government career working at the post office in Kingston. She also worked in the Prime Minister's office under then Prime Minister Michael Manley as his registrar for many years, before finishing her service at the Ministry of Education. She was extremely committed to service and helping people and was very active in Jamaican politics at the time. She believed very strongly about helping small businesses and buying local.
Evet always believed that together everyone could make a difference,
I recall having many boarders sent from the country to her, so they were able to go to schools in Kingston, usually they were relatives of friends and family. I thank her for this wonderful quality that she's passed on to me.
Evet loved to cook and share, we would have lots of parties and get togethers at our house, her cooking and baking were legendary, I remember regularly her taking some of whatever Sunday dinner over to neighbors. My parents grew almost everything and as we do in Jamaica we shared and exchanged vegetables, fruits, herbs. Our neighbors were our family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eston (Bertie) in 1983, and many brothers and sisters. Her stepson Khann Cross in 2020 and grandson Ian Cross in 2021.
Evet is survived by her son Errol, (Theresa) NYC, and daughter Heather (Don), Owasso, OK grandchildren, Kisha, Kevin, Zachary, Jayden and Aubrie, also numerous nieces and nephews, and great and great grand nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her sister, Patricia Ho Sang and husband Michael Ho Sang, also nieces Stephanie and Pearl and Patricia, her nieces, the Ho Sang girls. Karen, Patrice, Charmaine and Caroline.
My mother loved to travel and was extremely independent up until 5 years ago.
She will be forever loved and missed.
