Obituary of Margaret Kay Dunbar

Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Margaret Kay (Porter) Dunbar, aka Grandma Bar or Ms. Kay, was born November 20, 1939 in Fruita, Colorado to George Miller Porter, Sr. and Margaret Katherine (Soliday) Porter.  She went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 10, 2023.

As a child the family moved to Oklahoma where she graduated from Sapulpa High class of 1957.  She was preceded in death by both of her parents.  She is survived by her four children Debbie Todd, Paul Dunbar, Jr., Kristy Rogers & husband George, Keri Dunbar Ricketts, brother George M. Porter, Jr. and wife Elaine, sister Sue Ellen Porter, nine grandchildren: Tiffany Todd Neil & husband Scott, Tres Dunbar & wife Kiera, Jessica Cole, Erica Hendrix & husband Dillon, Chelsey Stroup & husband Theodore, Shadow Gentle, Jacy Dannatte & husband Dylan, Dalton Gentle & wife Shelby, Kailey Griffin & partner Corey.  Along with 12 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of others that chose to call her Grandma Bar.

As a teenager she started going to First Christian Church where she became a member on March 28, 1956 and was part of the Builders Class and the church choir as well as a Sunday School teacher for 5 year olds for 54 years.  Before her passing she was the longest living member of the church.  She had been a phone operator, a babysitter, she taught art at Liberty School Kindergarten and then went on to serve the community at Camp Fire USA where she started as a group leader and then ultimately retired, after 13 years.  Kay loved working with children in any capacity.

Some of her hobbies included painting, sewing, crafts, cake baking and decorating, which she was really good at.   She loved to decorate for ALL the holidays and would always have a tree for each one.  She also loved to take road trips, all you had to do was ask.  She enjoyed keeping stats for the girl’s softball teams and never missed a game or cheerleading event.  She wasn’t much for cooking, but she was known for her poached eggs and toast.

Kay touched many lives and was loved dearly by all who came to know her.  She will be missed.
