We are all deeply hurting and feeling the pain of losing Benjy. It does bring us all hope and joy knowing that he is now enjoying his new life journey in heaven.
I was fortunate enough to meet Benjy a few times. My most fond memory was a fantastic day spent in Torchy’s backyard. We spent the whole day cooking, eating, drinking, playing corn hole, and just really enjoying each others company. The best part of the whole day was when Benjy and I won corn hole. He was sinking them that day and even had back to back shots go straight in for the win. What a day and what a memory I will cherish forever.
Listening to Benjy speak, it’s very clear that he is extremely smart and very, very wise. I know he gave my future mother in law and fiancée more comfort than anyone could ever know. He was always there for them when they had a question or needed support. He was a great brother, uncle, son, and of course father. We all miss him so much.
I’ve truly enjoyed hearing the stories of Benjy’s past the last few weeks. His wisdom and amazing memories will remain with us forever as he enjoys his new journey.
With love,
Lake Lund

I, and my brother, Perry Dale Anglin, met Benjy, our young cousin, somewhere around 1974 while in Tulsa visiting our father, William Arthur Anglin. Benjy, about 15 or 16, even then, was a handsome young man; well spoken, obviously smart as heck. Respectful and considerate toward Dale and me and to our father. We commented to the other, how unusual - to find Benjy so polite and mature.
Needless to say, we were delighted meeting this young man, our cousin - besides, due to his youth and innocence, we found he was susceptible to our [mine and Dale's] quips and carrying on - mostly at each other - at which Benjy laughed -
So, there you have it: Benjy appreciated great humor!
Actually, laughter and good humor was/is not unusual in our family - it was pleasing to find it unimpaired, whole, in our young cousin, Benjy Dale Smith.
Truly, we were impressed by Benjy and his thoughtful, courteous manner. Indeed, we were treated with kindness and love by all. It was a difficult time for us, but the kindness and love expressed by our Aunt Jane, Torchy, and Big Mama, helped Dale and me immensely, also by Benjy's thoughtfulness and kindness - he seemed to understand things - situations- beyond his youth.
************
Now, and forever, it is with regret, sadness, and disappointment I continue - I think we all know words never truly impart what is in our hearts - our souls.
For me, it is a personal loss, not being able to see and talk with Benjy before he became gone. I pray and hope I will have another opportunity.
.... Godspeed, Benjy, on your grand journey...
- Note: about 1957-58, in May - June, I visited my Aunt Jane and her husband Clifford when they lived in Sapulpa, of course, the family included Big Mama and Torchy Jane. I was treated with love and kindness by all, including my younger, attractive cousin, Torchy Jane - who challenged me to a race in a swimming pool not far from her house, beating me handily and smiling, smiling ... a special girl...
What luck! - related to Aunt Jane, her husband, Clifford, Big Mama, Torchy Jane...- Super people- convivial, hospitable.
- Big Mama, a victim of the Civil War, and the awful upheaval caused by that war: displacement, orphans, dead and/or missing fathers, forced immigration, shocked, mindless, wandering people - the South changed forever - the war- affecting Big Mama and thousands of others- but she overcome, married Papa Neal, born five and raised five children. Persevering, tough.
- Rose Anglin, a Mississippi child, had a marvelous southern accent: "...now Ah-tha...", laughing, about to protest something he [dad] said....
One snowy, happy, Christmas, we visited Big Mama's sister, Aunt Lydle in Tennessee; the love those sisters had for each other! and such laughter! They often hugged, I believe, knowing this time was the last time - the last chance they had to do so - in this world. - Torchy remembers, for we spoke of that Christmas trip to Tennessee.
One evening, Jane, Clifford, Torchy, and I went to a BYOB club in Tulsa. We had such a good time - conviviality, laughter, dancing, good companionship - taking an occasional sip from Clifford's fifth ... - "for soothe, flaming youth was mine" [ours] - and dance with the best-looking gal in Tulsa: Benjy's mom... - and dance we did!
- I'll never forget that special time - in Tulsa, Oklahoma - about 1957-58 -
May God bless all of you and - thank you, thank you....
